Year: July 2018
Instrumentation: String Quartet
Duration: 6:40”
Performance History: Written for the ConTempo String Quartet as part of the Irish Composition Summer School. Workshopped in Dublin, 12/07/18. Second workshop in January 2019 by members of the Ligeti Quartet and the Gildas Quartet as part of the BFE/RMA Conference in Sheffield, where I also presented a paper on my research. If you are interested in premiering this work please get in touch.
About: Based on the poem Digging by Irish poet Seamus Heaney, Enturfment continues my exploration of the use of vocal effects in instrumental music. The text gradually emerges as a surface texture as the piece progresses, becoming more prominent until the piece ends softly with breaths and gentle whistling sounds.
Awards: Finalist in the 14th Sun River Prize Student’s New Music Competition, Chengdu, P.R. China 2018
