Dr. Anselm McDonnell gained his PhD in musical composition from Queen’s University Belfast in 2020. As a composer he has been commissioned and programmed by ensembles like the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Singers, the Ulster Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and Crash Ensemble. His music has been performed in 13 countries around the world. He is a Teaching Assistant in Composition and Classical Analysis at Queen’s University Belfast, and teaches Composition and Advanced Music Theory at the Ulster College of Music. As a guitarist, he has won several awards including the Ards International Guitar Festival Young Guitarist of the Year, and the Flax Trust Award for Performance. He has played with the London Symphony Orchestra, Elizabeth Hilliard, and performed new works by contemporary composers. He has ten years of teaching experience in guitar, teaching from beginners to advanced students. In composition and music theory he has taught from beginners up to postgraduate level.
